About
Malia

From Honolulu to Hong Kong, San Francisco to Chicago, Palm Beach to Palm Springs—I work side-by-side with entrepreneurs and boutique businesses to clarify vision, elevate brands, and craft high-touch experiences that feel personal, polished, and unforgettable.

For over 25+ years, I’ve blended creativity with business-building across branding, graphics and stationery, product development, sourcing, marketing, interiors, and, sales for design firms. I’m at my best where a strong point of view meets real-world execution: shaping clear presentations and proposals, guiding clients through decisions, and building the trust that turns interest into yes.

Growing up in Honolulu, Hawaii with a modern architect father and a fashion merchandiser mother where hospitality, entertaining, art, and design were part of everyday life. I was drawn early to color, paper, typography, and fashion and studied textile and graphic design in Seattle. It was at the University of Washington that I sold my first textile installation, Salmon Swim —an early moment that made the path feel real.

My career began in San Francisco, where Levi Strauss & Co. sharpened my understanding of brand stewardship. Designing and art directing the Women and Girls t-shirt graphics meant keeping collections fresh and trend-forward while protecting what made Levi’s® iconic.

Following successes in leading sales for design firms, a 2002 move to Hong Kong landed me in a place where small print shops in Central and a hankering to design stationery led to my design and branding studio, Studio M. It started with a small project — a moving announcement for a friend relocating to Japan, featuring koi fish, a symbol of good luck. Over time, the studio grew into a full consultancy. My work there included marketing and designing Cathay Pacific Airlines’ annual holiday card for top-tier travelers, rebranding St. Honore Cake Shop and Florté Jardin des Thés packaging and signage, creating a leadership guide for Macquarie Bank, and packaging for Ginsberg + Chan Wine Merchants.

What matters most in how I work is simple: listen well, bring clarity, keep things moving, and take real care of the people on the other side of the table - the mix of creativity and execution while elevating brands through design, strategy, and exceptional client care.
